Where Is The Animation Pane In Powerpoint 2011 For Mac

The main purpose of adding animation to any slide object is to draw the attention of the audience to some concept. After adding animation, you canset the animation event, andalso the speed of the animation.To make it more interesting, you may also want some sound to play along with the animation. One aspect that you should always rememberis that although you can add sound to an animation, it is not always necessary to do so -- we suggest you only add sound sparingly --and even then, you must make sure that the sound adds some value to the animation. In addition, it is important that you use the perfectsound type for any animation -- using clapping or roaring sounds is very cliché. Now that we have made you aware about the caveats,let us go ahead and explore the actual procedure in PowerPoint 2011:

1. Make sure that your slide has an animated slide object. Select the slide object and click the Reorder button (highlighted inred within Figure 1, below) within the Animations tab of theRibbon, as shown in Figure 1.

2. This brings up the Custom Animation tabof the Toolbox as shown in Figure 2.Within the Animation order section, select the animation for which you want to add sound effect, as shown inFigure 2. Now, click on the Effect Options pane that you can see highlighted inred, within Figure 2.

3. This reveals the options within the Effect Options pane as shown in Figure 3. Select theSound option that you can see highlighted in red, within Figure 3.

4. This reveals the Sound drop-down list as shown in Figure 4, below. In this list you can selectany of the preset sounds that PowerPoint offers -- these have names such as Arrow, Breaking Glass,Bubbles, Camera, etc. The soundsare of a very short duration, typically under 2 or 3 seconds. In Figure 4 you can see that theNo Sound option has been selected within the Sound drop-down list, indicated by a tick mark infront of it. Click on any other sound such as Arrow to apply it to the animation.

5. If you want to add a sound clip other than the available preset sounds, scroll down to the bottom of the Sounddrop-down list where you will find the Other Sound option as shown in Figure 5. Select this option.

   This opens the Choose a Sound dialog box as shown in Figure 6. In this dialog box, navigate tothe folder where you have saved the sound you want to play along with the animation. Select the required sound file, and click theInsert button (highlighted in red within Figure 6).

   Tip: You can only use WAV files for animation sounds - other sound formats such as WMA and MP3 that PowerPointaccepts cannot be used as animation sounds. Also, animation sounds are always embedded rather than linked.
6. In addition to the preset sound library in PowerPoint, and Other Sound option, you will also find two more optionsat the top of the Sound drop-down list -- these are No Sound andStop Previous Sound (highlighted in red within Figure 7).

   Here is an explanation of what these options do:
   • No Sound is the default option. Choosing this option after you add a sound to your animation provides a quickway to remove sound from your animation.
   • Stop Previous Sound lets you stop the sound playing along with a previous animation -- sometimes you may add alonger sound clip and you may not want it to play longer -- in that case, for the next animation, select theStop Previous Sound option to stop the previous animation's sound from playing further.
7. After adding the required sound, click the Play button within the Preview group (highlighted inred within Figure 8) to preview the animation. You can hear the added sound playingalong with the animation.

8. Save your presentation often.

If your animation effects in PowerPoint aren’t playing in the sequence that you want, you can rearrange the order. Click the object on your slide with the animation effects that you want to reorder. On the Animations tab, click Animation Pane. (In PowerPoint for Mac 2011, on the Animations tab, click Reorder.). (In PowerPoint for Mac 2011, on the Animations tab, click Reorder.) In the Animation Pane, click and hold the animation effect you want to move, and drag it up or down to a new position. In the picture below, we’re moving the 1st animation effect down below the 3rd one.

The first tab within the Toolbox inPowerPoint 2011 is the Custom Animation tab. This tabprovides options to reorder, change, and remove existing animations on your slides. To use any of the options in this tab, you must have a slideobject that has animation added to it - in Figure 1, you can see thatanimations applied toa Rectangle show up in this tab within the Animation order list.

Within the Animation Order section of the Toolbox, select any animation to enable the additional Toolboxsections and options, as shown in Figure 2.

Let us now explore the animation options within the Custom Animation tab of the Toolbox, as marked in Figure 2,above:

A. Animation order

This section displays the list of all the animations on the current slide. For this tutorial we have appliedtwo animations to the same Rectangle, and they show within the Animation order section (refer to Figure 2 above).

B. Reorder

Click either of the Re-Order arrow buttons to move the selected animation before or after in the sequence. TheRe-order button only works when there are two or more animations on a slide.

C. Remove Animation

Click this button to remove the selected animation(s) from the active slide.

D. Effect Options

Click the disclosure triangle to expand this section. The Effect Options section providessettings for the selected animation (see Figure 3).

Within this section you can customize the following options:

Property: Click the drop-down list to display properties for the selected animation. In Figure 3 above, theproperty allows you to change the direction of the animation, but these properties will differ based on the animation selected.

After animation: In this dop-down list, you'll get options for the action that happens after the animation has occurred. You canchoose Theme Color, Colors, Don't Dim, Hide after Animation, and Hide on Next Animation. Again, options may differ based on the selected animation.

Sound: This drop-down list provides various sounds which can be applied when the animation is played. You can also choose theOther Sound option to choose a sound file located on your system.

Smooth Start and Smooth End: Select these check boxes to smoothly start and end your animations, otherwise theeffect plays at a constant speed, some people may call this abrupt. Availability of Smooth Start and Smooth End check boxes depends upon the type ofanimation selected.

E. Timing

This section provides options for changing the timing of the animation effect you have selected, as shown inFigure 4.

Within this section you can customize the following options:

Start: Choose from On Click, With Previous, and After Previous.

Speed: Choose from the predetermined time intervals.

Delay: Use the spinner control to set the number of the seconds to wait before the animation begins to play.

Repeat: Choose how many times you want to repeat the animation.

Rewind when done playing: Select this check-box to start over the animation when the slide containing the animation is shownagain.

F. Text Animations

Within this section you can find the options to apply fancier animations to Text, similar sections may beavailable for Charts and SmartArt (see Figure 5).

Within this section you can customize the following options for Text Animation:

Animate text: Choose from All at Once, By Word, and By Letter.

Group text: Choose how the bulleted text is animated, as a group all at once, or by paragraph (bulleted) levels.

Animate attached shape: When this checkbox is selected, the shape that contains text is animated along with the text in it. Whennot selected, only the text is animated.

In reverse order: Sets the paragraphs in text animations to animate in reverse order.
